Sioux Empire United Way held their annual Kickoff Event on Wednesday. More than 200 United Way supporters joined together to learn that this year's goal is $10,364,041.
2017 Campaign Chair, Jay Huizenga noted that funds raised this year will support 87 different programs at 41 local agencies. Services provided include nutritous meals delivered to older adults, reading and writing lessons for adults wanting to better their lives, and mentoring options for high school students who need support to succeed in school.
Jean Gross, Oral Health Educator with Delta Dental of SD, shared her experience with two United Way funded programs that focus on dental care for youth. Delta Dental's Mobile Dental Program provides free dental care to low-income or uninsured youth. United Way will fund 8 weeks of the program in 2017. Sioux Empire Smiles is a free one day dental event, Sioux Empire United Way is funding the 2016 event, to be held on October 1.
The 2017 Campaign is off to a strong start, with several corporate gifts already committed. Last year's campaign was supported by 700 businesses and 27,000 givers.
