Meet Our Newest Nonprofit Partners: Expanding Our Reach Across the Sioux Empire
At Sioux Empire United Way, our mission is to lead, sustain, and nurture a unified, effective response to community needs. That mission grows stronger every year — and this year, we are proud to welcome five new nonprofit partners into our Community Impact funding family.
These organizations are doing critical, on-the-ground work across our region — serving our most vulnerable neighbors, filling gaps in our community's safety net, and showing up every single day for people who need it most. We are honored to support them and even more honored to introduce them to you.
Midwest Street Medicine
Some of the most vulnerable members of our community are also the hardest to reach — people experiencing homelessness who may not feel comfortable walking into a clinic or accessing traditional healthcare services. Midwest Street Medicine meets them where they are.
This innovative organization brings medical care directly to individuals living on the streets, providing services that most people take for granted — wound care, chronic disease management, mental health support, and connections to additional resources. By removing the barriers that so often stand between people and healthcare, Midwest Street Medicine ensures that everyone in our community has access to the care they need, regardless of their circumstances.
Their work is a powerful reminder that healthcare is a human right — and that sometimes, you have to bring it to the people who need it most.
Bread Break
Food insecurity looks different than many people imagine. Bread Break is committed to making sure no one in our community goes hungry, and they do it with warmth, dignity, and community at the center of everything they do.
Bread Break is a food recovery nonprofit that works with businesses to collect unused, otherwise discarded surplus and prepared food and distributes it to agencies that feed those in need. Bread Break’s 80+ volunteer drivers rescue fresh and prepared food from 50+ local partners and deliver it to 40+ organizations serving people in need, working alongside groups like Feeding South Dakota and Midwest Food Bank.
We are thrilled to welcome Bread Break to our nonprofit partner family and to support their work feeding our neighbors.
Veterans Community Project of Sioux Falls
The men and women who have served our country deserve more than our gratitude — they deserve housing, stability, and a community that shows up for them the way they showed up for us. Veterans Community Project of Sioux Falls is doing exactly that.
Modeled after a nationally recognized program that has helped veterans across the country, Veterans Community Project of Sioux Falls provides tiny homes and wraparound support services to veterans experiencing homelessness. Their village model creates a true community — a place where veterans can stabilize, heal, and rebuild their lives surrounded by neighbors who understand their experience.
From case management to mental health support to employment assistance, Veterans Community Project of Sioux Falls walks alongside veterans every step of the way. We are incredibly proud to support this vital organization and the heroes they serve right here in the Sioux Empire.
Sioux Empire Triage Center — The Link
When someone is in crisis — struggling with addiction, mental health challenges, or the aftermath of a difficult situation — they need immediate, compassionate care. The Sioux Empire Triage Center, known as The Link, provides exactly that.
The Link serves as a bridge between crisis and stability, offering a safe place for individuals to land when they have nowhere else to turn. By providing triage services, connections to treatment, and a pathway to longer-term support, The Link helps individuals navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives — and begin moving forward.
In a community that is working hard to address the intersecting challenges of addiction, mental health, and homelessness, The Link fills a critical gap. We are proud to support their work and grateful for the compassionate team behind it.
Rural Office of Community Services (ROCS)
The needs of our community don't stop at the Sioux Falls city limits — and neither does Sioux Empire United Way's commitment to serving our neighbors. The Rural Office of Community Services, known as ROCS, ensures that individuals and families in rural areas of our region have access to the support and resources they need.
ROCS provides a wide range of services to rural communities — from emergency assistance and utility support to food resources and community programming. For families living outside of urban centers, ROCS is often the first and only point of contact for help — a lifeline in communities that can feel far from the resources available in larger cities.
By supporting ROCS, Sioux Empire United Way is extending our reach into the corners of our community that need it most. Because everyone in the Sioux Empire deserves support — no matter their zip code.

Every year, our Community Impact process brings together dedicated volunteers to review funding applications and direct resources where they are needed most. The addition of these five new partners reflects the evolving needs of our community — and our commitment to meeting those needs head-on.
