Volunteer with Sioux Empire United Way

We help you help your community.

Join our growing network of enthusiastic volunteers to learn, grow, and make an impact in your community through Sioux Empire United Way's network of supported agencies. We help members better understand the human service needs – providing for children, vulnerable adults, and people in crisis – in our very own community.

In 2022, Volunteer United – formally known as Emerging Leaders – made an incredible impact on our community through over 350 volunteer hours. These hours were spent at Lunch & Learn and through hands-on volunteering. Check out our full impact here.

Upcoming Events

Check out our events calendar to see how you can get involved!

Join us for an exciting conversation about Volunteer United, VTO, and volunteerism in the Sioux Empire during the March Virtual Focus Workshop hosted by the Sioux Falls Young Professionals Network!

Whether you're looking to get more involved, join a local volunteer group, or learn about VTO benefits, we'd love to have you. The workshop is completely virtual from 12 pm - 1 pm and we hope to see you there!

Pre-Registration is required and you should receive a zoom link the day of the workshop.

Join us at Lutheran Social Services After-School Program where we'll work alongside LSS to enjoy an afternoon of activities with over 35 students. Together we'll help children with learning enrichment worksheets, daily journaling practices, and a fun group game. If the weather is nice, we can spend time on the playground too!

LSS After-School programs provide a safe and supervised environment for elementary children after school hours. By combining academic enrichment with cultural and recreational activities that children enjoy enjoy, they're able to experience new things, improve their confidence, expand their creativity, and grow emotionally and socially!

Volunteer United is excited to invite you to the 2024 Day of Action! Join us alongside our locally funded SEUW partner agencies to provide practical and tangible solutions to the challenges they may be facing. Whether it’s preparing meals, painting furniture, or serving guests, we look forward to supporting the agencies impacting our community!

Volunteers will be expected to complete hands on projects and agency tours from 1 - 3:45 pm and are invited to attend the Volunteer United Annual Celebration from 4 - 6 pm. This will be a great opportunity to mingle with SEUW volunteers, board members, staff, and partner agencies.

Individual and volunteer groups will need to register in advance as we will be providing T-shirts for the Day of Action & will be matching volunteers and agencies based on their project preferences.

Join Volunteer United & Meals on Wheels at Active Generations to help package meals for local individuals that are unable to prepare healthy, consistent meals in their homes for medical or social reasons.

Volunteers will serve on a packing line that is very similar to a school cafeteria packing system. Items are scooped into trays and stamped. On average, volunteers pack approximately 580 meals. These meals are then delivered by volunteers and staff to homebound clients throughout the Sioux Empire. (This opportunity is to package, not deliver)

We ask that volunteers wear close-toed shoes, tie up long hair, and arrive at 9:20 am. We estimate that there will be a short tour and a 1 hour activity beginning at 9:30 am. Volunteers can park on the west side parking lot and use the entrance facing west. Please line up around 9:20am near the cashier desk which is directly in front of the “Sertoma” room (there is a large sign). This will allow volunteers time to put coats away, put gloves/hair nets on, etc.

Join Volunteer United virtually to review scholarships for the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation throughout the month of May!

These scholarship funds open doors to life-changing opportunities for local students to pursue higher education. In 2023, SFACF disbursed over $500,000 in scholarships, empowering students statewide to continue their academic endeavors, including two-year, four-year, and graduate degree programs.

This selfled volunteer event is the perfect opportunity to reward deserving individuals in our community! Volunteers can expect login credentials to review applications after the Volunteer Orientation and Appreciation Event at R Wine Bar in Sioux Falls on Tuesday, April 23rd, from 4:30-6:00PM.

Volunteers are not required to attend the orientation, but must pre-register in order to receive a link to RSVP. You can expect further details after applications close on May 1st.
