Since 2005, Sioux Empire United Way's WomenUnite Event has served as a way to connect women in our community to an emerging community need. Women unite around a cause and create change by creating awareness, encouraging excitement for giving, and inspiring volunteerism.
In 2018, women from across the Sioux Empire will again unite to take action. This year we will learn how Sioux Empire United Way supports a free after-school music program that builds a community through respect, group contribution, perseverance, and love.
Harmony South Dakota started in 2014 in part with a Sioux Empire United Way Community Impact Grant. Their location at St. Joseph's School was ideal for Hawthorne Elementary students, a Title 1 school. Since launching, the program has grown and students from 12 different schools now make their way to Harmony every day school is in session.
At this year's WomenUnite Event, Sioux Empire United Way will share Harmony's story of building a community. We'll hear stories of their beginning, their impact, and hear a little of their music.
Harmony South Dakota joins a long line of good things happening across the Sioux Empire through community solutions that have been featured at WomenUnite. This includes:
- Girls on the Run
- BackPack Program
- Heart and Sole
- Challenge Day
- Ready to Start
- Better Together
- Delta Dental's Mobile Dental Program and Southeastern Dental Society of SD's Sioux Empire Smiles
