Providing Warm Meals to Older Adults

In older age, adults need nutrient rich foods for healthy aging and prevention of chronic disease. Despite the importance of proper nutrition, older adults may face barriers in maintaining a proper diet, including: financial constraints, mobility limitations, cognitive limitations, and nutritional knowledge.

Sioux Empire United Way funds a simple solution to these barriers: the Senior Nutrition Program through Active Generations. The program serves a wide variety of needs. Congregate dining is a great solution for older adults who are able to independently visit the on-site dining room at Active Generations. The in-house dining program provides an opportunity for a great meal and to socialize with other community members. Meals on Wheels, or home-delivered meals, provide a warm, nutritious meal delivered daily by trained volunteers.

My mom is 99 years old and still lives alone in her own home. She loves being here, but can barely get around even with a walker. She is on a limited income so Meals on Wheels has been a Godsend. These nutritious tasty meals provide her with usually enough food for two meals. She looks forward to them and the interaction with the delivery people. Thank you for the much needed service from the bottom of our hearts! – Daughter of Home Delivered Recipient

Active Generation’s nutrition program will provide over 220,000 meals to 3,740 clients this year. This program and others that assist vulnerable adults are made possible through your gift to Sioux Empire United Way.
