Volunteer Spotlight: Dr. Daniel Heinemann

Sioux Empire United Way is very grateful for the leaders of our community to give their time, energy, and passion to our organization year after year. We have many great leaders who serve on our Board of Directors and we would not be able to continue to make an impact in the 33 communities of the Sioux Empire without their expertise and leadership.  Let's get to know a few of these members.

Our Board of Director's Chairman is Dr. Daniel Heinemann from Sanford Health.

1. After each board meeting Dan shares a quote of the week and a book recommendation with us.  We asked Dan what his favorite quote and book is for this time of year.

Quote:  "Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow." ― Melody Beattie

Book: The Boys in the Boat

2. With the holidays top of mind, do you and your family have a favorite holiday tradition?

Now that my children are grown up, we enjoy the time we get to have together and this year our celebrations will include our first grandchild, Sloane, the most wonderful little girl in the world.

3. As our Board of Directors Chair, what have you enjoyed most about serving on our Board of Directors over the years?

I enjoy the opportunity to make a difference and to lead an amazing group of volunteers and dedicated staff. This is my chance to be a part of the change.

4. As we wrap up another great year, what has been your best accomplishment for 2019?

I have had some very fulfilling and satisfying work accomplishments this year, but the most rewarding has been some work within my national professional organization in bringing together a Delegation from my professional organizations to the American Medical Association House of Delegates.

5. Why do you continue to give back?

It is so important to "pay it forward". I have been given so much throughout my life and now is the time to share it with others.
