Volunteer Spotlight: Jessica Stienstra, 2021 Campaign Cabinet

Sioux Empire United Way is very grateful for the leaders of our community who give their time, energy, and passion to our organization. We are grateful for our campaign volunteers who give countless hours building relationships with community leaders and business owners year after year to help Sioux Empire United Way meet our fundraising goal. We have over 600 volunteers who assist with the campaign in some way. During this Volunteer Sportlight segment, we are going to introduce you to our division chairs who serve on the Campaign Cabinet. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for continuous updates.

Name: Jessica Stienstra
Employer: Avera Heart Hospital
Sioux Empire United Way Volunteer Role:  Campaign Cabinet: Employee Gifts Division D Chair

How did you get involved with United Way?
My first real involvement with SEUW was at Raven and I was the chair for our division. I was able to join agency tours and really learned a lot about the organization. I saw the bigger picture and the full impact the SEUW makes in our community and I wanted to be a part of that.

Why do  you continue to give?
I believe we all have a responsibility to give of our time, treasure and talents to help those needing assistance. Plus, it just makes the heart feel good!

What program or agency is near and dear to you and your family?
Well, there are so many but if I choose just one…Bethany Christian Services. From adoption resources to pregnancy support and their Safe Families for Children program, they are committed to helping create strong families in our community. We are so lucky to have them here in the Sioux Empire.

Advice for others to get involved in the community?
Start small. Join the Emerging Leaders, visit an agency, volunteer one hour a month with a program that tugs at your heart strings. There is no better time to get involved, than right now.

Additional thoughts to share with our readers?
I think that sometimes people feel they need to give large amounts or volunteer at multiple places for many hours to really make an impact, and while that is great if you are able, not everyone can do that. So, give what you are able and know that through the SEUW your gift is combining with others to make a real difference in our community.
